FAQs

What Is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is one of many different molecules known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD has many beneficial properties and is commonly used to promote overall wellness.

CBD oil is a natural oil extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is used by people all over the world for a variety of purposes.

Many people use CBD to support the body’s natural systems. Cannabinoids are an integral part of the human body’s ability to regulate and balance a wide variety of physiological systems. CBD is also used by some for specific purposes such as supporting a good night’s rest or maintaining well-functioning joints.

Cannabinoids are active compounds produced by all cannabis plants. There are over 100 cannabinoids identified and more being discovered all the time. Cannabinoids account for most of the benefits of cannabis. A few examples of cannabinoids are CBD and THC, two of the more well-known cannabinoids, and others such as CBG, CBN, CBC and more.

Cannabinoids found in plants are called phytocannabinoids, while cannabinoids produced by the human body are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which promotes homeostasis.

While CBD and THC are both cannabinoids found naturally in the cannabis plant and have many benefits, a major difference is that the THC molecule has a psychotropic effect, meaning it provides a mood enhancing experience, commonly known as a “high.”

Cannabis is a plant that grows wild in many parts of the world that has been identified to have many beneficial properties. Due to this discovery, cannabis is now farmed all over North America and many parts of the world. Hemp is a legal definition differentiating a cannabis plant that is high in the CBD cannabinoid and lower in the THC cannabinoid. Cannabis, also called Marijuana, which is a slang term, is the plant that is higher in the THC cannabinoid.

Hemp is a variety of cannabis that is grown for food and fibers. CBD is a molecular compound found in the plant’s extracts. Our CBD is extracted from a proprietary strain of hemp known as PCR hemp, or phytocannabinoid-rich hemp. This proprietary strain is far richer in CBD and other cannabinoids and terpenes than the basic hemp plant used by most CBD producers.

Hemp seed oil is distinct from CBD oil. While CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant’s flowers, hemp seed oil is produced by pressing the plant’s seeds. Hemp seed oil is similar to other seed oils such as corn oil and sesame oil. Hemp seed oil has its own benefits, but it does not contain cannabinoids such as CBD.

The term broad spectrum refers to CBD oil products that contain a combination of cannabinoids, terpenes and other beneficial compounds found in hemp. While many CBD oil products are made using CBD isolate, our broad spectrum oils maintain concentrations of the beneficial compounds that are found in the original hemp plant. Our broad spectrum CBD oil products contain 0.0% THC, as shown on our lab reports.

Full spectrum CBD oil is very similar to broad spectrum CBD — the exception is that full spectrum oil usually retains the trace amounts of THC present in the hemp plant. Legally, though, this amount of THC must always be less than 0.3%.

How does CBD work?

CBD’s effects are a result of its interaction with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a system found in all mammals or living things with a central nervous system and a spine. The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is a system of neurotransmitters and cell membrane receptors. Neurotransmitters such as endocannabinoids are produced by the central nervous system and interact with cannabinoid receptors on cell membranes to adjust physiological processes at a cellular level.

Broad and full spectrum CBD oil, such as that used in our products, contains a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes as well as other beneficial compounds. Each of the compounds has particular effects on the human body. The entourage effect occurs when compounds in the hemp plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, work together to produce even greater effects than just CBD alone.

Terpenes are a class of volatile hydrocarbon compounds produced in the flower clusters of the cannabis plant. Terpenes are what give cannabis its distinct aromas and have been utilized by humans for millennia in aromatherapy. Terpenes are recognized as safe for human consumption by the Food and Drug Association and are used in a wide variety of food and cosmetic products.

No. Unlike marijuana and THC, CBD is non-psychotropic and is extremely unlikely to cause a high.

Some of the effects reported by CBD oil users include improved mood, restful sleep, increased attention and focus and others. However, organic compounds such as CBD can produce different effects in different people. Your results may vary.

How should I use CBD?

Medical cannabis is another term for medical marijuana. Marijuana contains THC, which is a cannabinoid that causes a high. Medical cannabis can cause severe impairments. CBD is not psychotropic, meaning that it does not cause a high. It can be used while working, driving or undertaking any other physical activities such as exercise and sports.

CBD is non-toxic. We have never heard of anyone overdosing on CBD. However, extremely large servings of CBD may cause drowsiness.

The ideal serving size of CBD for each person depends on a wide range of variables. It also depends on the product. Servings of 5 to 50 milligrams per day are commonly reported for health maintenance and minor issues.

CBD can be taken multiple times each day, or at particular times of day, depending on the reason it is being used.

Our edible products are best taken with food, although there are usually no issues when taken on an empty stomach. Taking the products with food may help to minimize any potential side effects.

No. CBD is not a drug. You will not be required to produce a medical marijuana card in order to purchase CBD online. However, some states have laws allowing doctors to recommend CBD to patients for particular conditions.

CBD itself does not have an expiration date. However, CBD oil products can degrade and should be used within a certain period of time. They should be stored in airtight containers either in the refrigerator or in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Please refer to the product expiration dates for more information.

We highly recommend either refrigerating CBD products or storing them in a cool place. Always keep CBD products in airtight containers and store them away from direct sunlight and heat, which can degrade certain compounds in CBD oil.

Under normal circumstances, our broad spectrum products are not expected to produce a positive result for THC consumption through testing conducted using industry-standard sophisticated testing methods. The Fifth Essence cannot, and does not represent or warrant as to the results that any individual may experience, and advises you to consider the risks of incorrect detection prior to use of this product.

Because of its ability to help support the body’s effort to maintain homeostasis, CBD is often used by those who don’t have any specific concerns.

Much more research needs to be done in this area. If you are taking prescription medications, consult with a qualified medical professional.

In some cases, such as when using a vaporizer or tincture, users often report almost immediate results. However, most of the effects of CBD are subtle and take some time to be detectable — usually half an hour or more. Personal results will vary.

The ideal method for taking CBD depends on the reason for which it’s being taken as well as your preference for its delivery format. If using CBD oil for general wellness, tinctures or capsules are recommended. However, gummies might be preferred for their flavor or for their ease of use — it might take a couple of tries to find the perfect product for you.
